May be good for basic coughs and colds, but horrible for anything more complex. When my husband had hit a crisis point and became quite confused, I gave these facts to Dr. Whalen. He asked my husband if he was confused, my husband answered "No", and the fine doctor told us we could come back the following week to talk to our own doctor or go to emergency. My whole family was horrified at his lack of professionalism or caring.If he couldn't apply a bandaid or hand out a quick presription, he didn't want to spend the time to delve further.

Wonderful Doctor who gets to the root of the problem quickly and is not afraid to seek the advice of a specialist if needed.

I went to Dr. Whalen with osteoarthritis in my hips, which caused great pain and diminished my quality of life, in 2006. Dr. Whalen prescribed ibuprofen, which did nothing for the pain. He said that was my only option.After years of pain rendering even walking a torture, I changed doctors in 2008 and within a few months I had total hip replacement on my right hip. I enjoy full pain-free movement now. Dr. Whalen was of no help at all. Dr. Whalen also looked after my father. My father is in his 80s and has serious mental conditions. He's been diagnosed bipolar and his memory is getting worse and worse. My father was on Prozac for 10 years to modify his mood swings. In Nov. 2013, Dr. Whalen took him off his medications, and now my step-mother is pleading for someone to help with his anger, violent behaviour. Dr. Whalen in not able to do so. I would say Dr. Whalen is good as a GP, looking after routine checkups, cuts and scrapes, but if you have any serious condition, Dr. Whalen has not proven to be competent in diagnosing or prescribing the correct treatments.

Looks at what he needs to, makes a diagnosis, offers suggestions and explains/answers questions. Excellent on follow-up re medical procedures; tells you how it is no messing around.

Dr. Whalen is thorough and very understanding. He listens extremely well to his patients, and is quick to help them out!
