Dr. Lu has left Queen's Family Medicine. I wish I could rate this clinic. When we moved here we didn't have a doctor for six years. We finally got into this clinic and loved it. The new facility was very nice and we liked our doctor there. He saw us at the end of each appt. whether we saw a resident or not and we usually were assigned one resident for their full time here. So some continuity of care was established and some feeling of actually having a family doctor who you knew as there. Then he left and we were assigned Dr. Lu. I thought it odd because there was no discussion with us. Just "this is your new doctor" Okay, we liked her well enough. She was good in many ways. However, we only saw her about three times in the few years she was there. The rest of the time it was a totally different resident each time. I started to feel like I was at the walk in clinic so what is the difference BUT. I had a relationship with most of the nurses and felt this was my "home" doctors office. When Dr. Lu left we got a letter in the mail telling us our new doctor *THIRD ONE IN A FEW YEARS* is Dr. Singh. We don't know this doctor at all. Not only that it's not even in the same building anymore. I really don't like going to the old building and never did like it when we used it for late evening walk in but, we've been given the boot because that's where our new "assigned" doctor is. I have lost all confidence in this type of care. It was okay when it was just for flu shots but, my health issues and my kids health issues are a lot more complicated now so this one doctor after the other with no input and then being told we aren't even in the same building anymore with ZERO say so is disheartening. I called to switch to Dr. Elizabeth Grier who I saw as a resident before she opened her practice. It's not going to happen. They aren't taking new patients over there. So, the one doctor I REALLY liked is out of the question and the situation now at Queen's Family Medicine is see one resident after the other. Maybe get to know your doctor and maybe not. And then you can be shunted to a new one when ever they feel like shunting you somewhere. You have no input as to who your doctor is. It's just who is taking patients. I'm really unhappy at Queen's Family Medicine now not because the doctors are "bad" But because we don't feel we have any continuity of care here anymore and we don't feel anyone cares what we think about this. I hope I like Dr. Singh and that he;she? Is a good fit for us. Regardless, there is no say so in the matter for us. We're not even in the same clinic now. I will really miss going there because at least I felt SOME comfort knowing the clinic well. I hate that dirty old building at the other place. Thanks a lot to Dr. Lu for the care she gave us but, I really wish our doctor would stay with us longer than two to three years. Three different family doctors with a complicated medical history in five and half years is way too many. I do not recommend going to Queen's Family Medicine anymore when I used to rave about it. Go to a doctor that you actually get to see and who stays put in one place. Queen's shuffles you around too much and some residents are great while others not so much. Plus the more people writing things in your chart the more confusing for you, for all the doctors and this inspires zero confidence in me as a patient that I'm getting consistency. I feel like I have to tell my entire medical history each time I go in to a new resident because they do NOT have time to read your whole chart. With ONE doctor seeing you all the time you don't have to worry about that. I'm looking for a new doctor again. Hope it doesn't take six years this time and Dr. Lu. I wish you'd talked to us directly about this instead of getting a letter in the mail. I dont' think a little feed back from your patients was too much to ask. At least I could have requested to stay at Clarence Street. I feel totally disregarded as a patient in this scenario. If you have a family doctor you love in Kingston, never let them go! They are very, very hard to come by here. I have spent a lot of time telling people that in Canada "yes you do get to choose your doctor" Well, not anymore. I haven't chosen my doctor since moving to Kingston. You take what's available and tough for you if it's someone not a good fit for you. That's the way it is here and it's not going to get any better any time soon.

I like Dr. Lu but, some things need to change here. The doctor I had before her at Queen's Family Medicine left and I was assigned Dr. Lu. With the other doc I saw him nearly every visit at least for a follow up on what the intern had done. With Dr. Lu I see a totally different intern every single time and some of them are VERY green. I rarely see her at all. On my last two yearly physicals the young doctors seemed uncomfortable with the pap smears they were doing especially this last one. He asked me if I thought a breast exam was necessary *nervously* and then to my utter shock said "Well, you are such and such an age, we don't really need to do the pap smear." I was shocked. Yes, you DO need to do it. Then when he did do it he was really nervous and clumsy. That was the second time in two years I was subjected to a doc who really did not want to do my pap. I hesitated to do this review but, after a whole year and the same experience twice I thought I would do it. Also, I have a kind of complicated medical situation and I am growing tired of repeating myself over and over. The interns do not read your history before you get there. I've had mis ordered tests once. One test was supposed to be ordered but that test was not ordered. When I there to do the test another totally different test probably for another patient was ordered for me. So back on the wait list I go for the test I really needed. Yes, anyone could make mistakes but, I have never seen a primary make a mistake like that. The nurse at KGH said "I see you go to Queen's family medicine, the young docs do not read the charts and they do not listen." Yikes! I also feel like I have to beg for further investigation sometimes when I have a problem that ought to be tested further. Just very rudimentary. Have to make three or four visits at times for the same problem before anything other than the most basic tests are done and even then I wait and wait. Dr. Lu is pleasant but, I feel she is overwhelmed and Queen's family medicine seems to have reworked how patients are seen. It's more factory like now. Less time with YOUR doctor and I don't feel safe seeing totally different doc each and every time anymore. I used to feel like my primary was really overseeing my care here even when I did see an intern. Previous doc assigned me the SAME intern for their entire time at this office so at least when I saw an intern it was the same one for a while until the next one then I saw him or her for a long while. Not anymore. It's a different one EVERY single time. That's no better than a walk in clinic or going to emerg. I'm shopping for a primary where I can at least see the same doc every third time or so. There's nothing particularly "wrong" with Dr. Lu but, after a while you do feel like a test rat. Staff at this office are fantastic though. Wish I had kept my former doc when I moved here. NOT afraid to order tests, believed me when I knew something was wrong and I did not have to give my entire medical history again and again and again to a "new" doc each time. This is getting tiresome and in some situations I think a little less than safe. And to the young male doc who was SO nervous and who made it clear he did not want to do breast exam or pap on me? Young man, you should not be a doctor. I felt humiliated by your behaviour. It was a yearly physical!! Of COURSE you are to do a pap. What if I had cervical cancer or something? Honestly, you are the kind of doc that makes me want to only see female docs. Yes, I an an older woman and if you cannot deal with doing paps on older women then you should not be a doctor. Period, OR you better learn how to be a better actor and keep your "distaste" to yourself. This happened weeks ago and I"m still upset by your unprofessional attitude and especially your remarks. "Oh we don't need to do a breast exam right? You do those yourself? Right? then later, Oh, we really can skip the pap smear as you are past menopause." WHAT? Clearly as both of those exams involve the female anatomy exclusively you were uncomfortable doing a professional exam on women. In this day and age I should not have to deal with your mommy issues. If I was at least able to see Dr. Lu for my once a year physical I would feel better all round about this clinic these days. Use to like going here a lot more than I do now. Too much of a revolving door now.

I often see a resident and not Dr. Lu but whenever I do speak with her she has always been very helpful and understand.
