On Saturday, July 18, 2018, I arrived at the PRHC emergency department at around 8:30 AM with severe chest pain as my breathing was very painful. I could not lie down as the pain was too intense. The ambulance drivers told me that my heart was OK but that they did not know what was wrong. Maybe I had broken a rib? The nursing staff arranged an Xray, ECG and Ultrasound before Dr. May saw me at 10:30 AM approximately. He immediately ordered morphine. My pain level was about a 9.5 but all the morphine did was to relax me a bit. It did little for the pain. He then ordered 600 mg of Advil which resulted in a noticeable lowering of the pain level within an hour. Dr. May diagnosed it as Pericarditis by about 1:30PM that day and I was released at 2PM. Twelve hours later I was down to a 2 pain level. I have learned since from Kawartha Cardio, who confirmed the diagnosis, that Pericarditis is difficult to diagnose. Hats of to Dr. May for figuring this out quickly and getting me on the recovery path. I am feeling great today, three weeks later. Thank you Dr. May! Evan Meyers
