Dr. Chris Overgaard is not just a medical doctor, he is a "people" doctor! He truly cares about his patients and their families. If Dr. Chris Overgaard did not step in before my father was set for open heart surgery, my father would not be with us today! He told us that the survival rate was 10% and not 85-90% as we were originally told 2 days prior. He believes that "less is more" and he was so right! By giving it some time and removing fluid from my father and giving the kidneys a chance to heal, he has completely recuperated and does not need dialysis at all where all other doctors said he would definitely need it for some time and most likely need it for life. He also understood that although you need to tell the patient the truth, you also need to take their state of mind into consideration on how you tell the truth. My father was depressed and just wanted to die when he heard all the negative news about his condition. Dr. Overgaard told him the truth but also told another truth..."nothing is definite, things can always change and what might seem true today may not be true down the road. Sometimes the body just needs time to heal itself". This was so true in my father's case. Hearing this also changed my father's attitude and made him determined to beat the odds. I believe Dr. Chris Overgaard is the only reason my father is still with us today!
